Upper-side and underside display of four members of the Callicore family, sometimes called Numberwings as the patterns on the underside hindwings resemble numbers or letters of the alphabet. These beautiful jewel-like butterflies are found in wet tropical rainforest areas of Venezuela, Guyana, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay and the upper Amazonian region of Brazil. They are usually encountered as solitary males and have a rapid and powerful flight over short distances. Males often visit river beaches to imbibe dissolved minerals.

On hot sunny days they habitually land on the arms, legs and backs of humans to imbibe sweat. On a personal note, this is by far my favourite display and has been the one most requested for wedding presents. Due to their delicate wings and antennae it is very tricky to set this display wings tear and antennae snap but its such a beautiful one to look at when its complete. These butterflies have been expertly prepared by hand to museum standards, and are mounted on conservation-grade foam in a hand-made, beautifully crafted case backed with Italian decorative paper.

Absolutely ideal for wedding presents, Christmas and birthday presents, home decoration Please note that the display should be kept out of direct sunlight as the colour comes from pigmentation of the scales, rather than refraction, and it will naturally fade if it spends too long in the sun. If you have any queries, or would like to request a different specimen, please get in touch! None of the butterflies offered for sale are listed on Annex A of the EU Wildlife Trade Regulations, and are farmed this ensures that not only are the specimens in perfect condition, but that the practice is completely sustainable. Butterfly farming allows farmers to generate income while conserving their natural heritage.
